The mobilization grows for the Venetian rescuer detained in Venezuela. Hundreds on the march to demand his return home. Solidarity also from the Municipality of Venice
MESTRE – The mobilization continues for Alberto Trentini, the Venetian rescuer arrested in Venezuela on November 15th and since then held in isolation in a prison. On the afternoon of Monday, June 16th, a group of people crossed the city, from Venice to Mestre, with the aim of keeping public and political attention focused on his case.
A march starting from San Pietro di Castello in Venice, with a meeting point for demonstrators, friends, acquaintances, and supportive citizens, around 5 pm at Forte Marghera. The group then moved towards Piazza Ferretto, symbolically passing through the historic heart of the city to the urban center of Mestre.
Here to welcome them, in addition to Alberto Trentini’s mother, was also the president of the City Council, Ermelinda Damiano, who stated: “The Municipality of Venice is at the forefront of keeping the spotlight on this issue, which we hope will be resolved soon. We express our full solidarity with his family and his mother who is going through a real moment of anguish. Our hope is that Alberto is well and we trust that the institutions, through important diplomatic work, will be able to resolve this situation as soon as possible.”
President Damiano also highlighted the prompt activation by the Mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to try to resolve the situation and bring Alberto back home as soon as possible.
The slogan of the walk, organized by the group “Alberto Trentini Libero”, was: “One step after the other, one heart next to another. For Alberto. To not forget. To bring him back home!”. At the end, some messages showing support from friends were read.
