On the occasion of the first anniversary of the death of Pope Francis, on April 21, 2025, a commemorative stamp was issued by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy

Italy – Poste Italiane has announced the issuance of a new commemorative stamp dedicated to Francis I, on the anniversary of his death. Elected on March 13, 2013, as the 266th Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church and Bishop of Rome, the papacy of Francis concluded on April 21, 2025.

The stamp is printed by the Italian State Printing and Mint Institute S.p.A., in rotogravure on white, neutral coated, self-adhesive paper with optical brightener, corresponding to the B rate value of €1.30. The print run is two hundred twenty-five thousand copies on sheets of forty-five copies.

The sketch was curated by the Philatelic Center of the Value Paper and Traditional Productions Office of the State Printing and Mint Institute S.p.A.

The cartoon reproduces a photographic image of Pope Francis who, in St. Peter’s Square among the faithful, releases a dove as a sign of peace. The stamp is completed by the legends “PAPA FRANCESCO” and the dates “2013 -2025”, the word “ITALY” and the tariff indication “B”.

The first day cancellation will be available at the Philately Space Roma 1. A philatelic folder containing the stamp, the sheet, the prepaid and canceled postcard, the first day of issue envelope, the card, and the illustrative bulletin is also available.

The stamp and related philatelic products, postcards, cards, and illustrated bulletins will be available at Post Offices with philatelic counters, the “Filatelia Spaces” in Florence, Genoa, Milan, Naples, Rome, Rome 1, Turin, Trieste, Verona, and on the website http://www.filatelia.poste.it.
