There are 26 Azzurri competing this weekend at the Indoor Athletics World Championships. All the big names are present, from Furlani and Battocletti to Fabbri and Dosso. Debut for Doualla
TORUN (POLAND) – The first major event of the athletics season begins. From tomorrow until Sunday, the World Indoor Athletics Championships will take place in Torun. Two sessions are scheduled for each day, in the morning from 10 AM to 2 PM, and in the afternoon from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Direct finals for all events (high jump, pole vault, long jump, triple jump, shot put), for the 3000 meters, and for the mixed 4×400 relay.
There are 26 Azzurri called up for the competitions, thirteen men and thirteen women. A record number of individual participants that matches the number reached in Paris 1997, where, however, there was also a relay. All the big names and medalists from the 2024 Olympic Games and the 2025 World Championships in track and field will be present, as well as the very young debutant Kelly Doualla.

The Blues in competition
Among the most anticipated athletes is certainly the two-time world champion in long jump Mattia Furlani. After winning the double title last season (indoor in Nanjing, outdoor in Tokyo), the 21-year-old Italian is expected to reaffirm his status among the best in the world. Staying in the long jump competition, we will also see the indoor European champion Larissa Iapichino.
First time and change of specialty instead for the Olympic and world silver medalist in the 10,000 meters, world bronze medalist in the 5,000 meters, and multiple European champion Nadia Battocletti. The athlete from Trentino will indeed line up for the 3,000 meters.
At twelve months from the triumph in Nanjing, Andy Diaz will try again in the triple jump. In the same event, the world silver medalist from Tokyo, Andrea Dallavalle. In the shot put, there will be the seasonal leader and already world bronze medalist Leonardo Fabbri (22.50) alongside Nicholas Ponzio.
Great anticipation for the women’s 60m where we will see the world silver medalist Zaynab Dosso, leading the annual rankings alongside Julien Alfred with 6.99, and the youngest participant in history at a World Championship, the sixteen-year-old Kelly Doualla. Podium hopes also for the world runner-up in Glasgow two years ago Lorenzo Simonelli in the hurdles.
