Erica Sessa triumphs in the first stage of the World Cup in clay shooting. Olympic champion Jessica Rossi comes in second.
TANGIER (MOROCCO) – A dream start in the inaugural stage of the World Cup in shooting with the range of the Club Tangérois de Tir in Tangier (Morocco) turning blue. After the double podium in the men’s skeet by Domenico Simeone and Erik Pittini, here comes a second double victory in the women’s trap.
The winner is Erica Sessa, with Jessica Rossi in second place just eight months after the birth of little David. An incredible success for the twenty-seven-year-old from Cava de’ Tirreni, who had only managed to reach the podium once before, achieving third place in May 2024 in Baku. For the new mom, this marks her twelfth podium in the World Cup.
The blue team made things clear from the start, positioning themselves in the qualifications respectively first (121/125) and third (117/125), thus earning a spot in the final for the best eight. Here, the athlete from Salerno was excellent in matching the fresh world record with 24/30, surpassing her more experienced compatriot who finished with 22/30. Third was the Spanish Mar Molne Magrina (19/25), while the first to miss the podium was the Polish Sandra Bernal (fourth with 15/20).
In the men’s competition, the one raising his arms to the sky was the Peruvian Alessandro De Souza Ferreira (first with 27/30), with the rest of the podium completed by the home competitor Driss Haffari (second with 25/30) and the Guatemalan Jean Pierre Brol Cardenas (third with 21/25). Finally, for Italy, it is worth noting the eighth place of Daniele Resca, the only Italian who managed to qualify for the final act.
