TREVISO (TV): Excellent results for the 2024 budget of the Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Center of Ca’ Foncello, the only accredited center for allogeneic transplantation in the provinces of Treviso and Belluno. In the last year and a half, the Center, part of the Hematology complex operating unit of the Treviso hospital, has performed 50 autologous transplants, 32 allogeneic transplants (from a donor), and currently has more than 50 patients who have previously undergone this procedure in other centers.
Through this activity, the Local Health Authority 2 offers the opportunity to access allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) from a family or unrelated donor, which has been the treatment of choice for many oncohematological diseases such as acute leukemias, and non-neoplastic diseases such as bone marrow failures.
The patient transplanted with HSC may experience issues involving all clinical areas at any point in the therapeutic process, requiring the collaboration of professionals from various operating units. In this complex management, another key figure is also involved: that of the donor. The selection of this fundamental resource, which can be a family member or a donor from the International Registry, requires the possession of highly specific and complex skills.
In order to share clinical and biological knowledge with all professionals involved in the management of these extremely fragile patients, the transplant team of Ulss 2, led by Dr. Marta Stanzani, organized the training course “Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation from Donor,” which concluded yesterday, Thursday, June 5th.
The course, held in the conference room of Ca’ Foncello, was divided into three editions, each of which addressed different topics on patient management, from transplant indication to both early and late complications. A focus was dedicated to the search for donors and the complex choice of the best option.
