The Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Foundation bids a final farewell to Pope Francis with a meeting on overcoming polarizations and on economic and social dialogue. The return of Pope Francis to the House of the Father leaves the Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice Foundation in deep and heartfelt sorrow. Upon hearing the news, the entire Foundation immediately gathered in prayer to honor the memory of the Holy Father.
The “Pro-Pontifice” Foundation had a special relationship with Pope Francis, being directly at his service for the dissemination of the Social Doctrine of the Church. To this end, the Foundation promotes the contribution of the entrepreneurial, financial, academic, civil society, young people, and people of goodwill who care about the principles and values of the Social Doctrine of the Church.
The community of the Foundation with its 35 chapters scattered all over the world joins in the unanimous mourning for the passing of the Pontiff and is preparing to commemorate him and enhance his spiritual and intellectual legacy at its annual Conference to be held from May 15th to 17th. “The event will be dedicated to the ethical foundations of global governance and to overcoming the growing polarizations that today threaten the economy, society, and international relations. This is a theme that goes to the heart of the thought and action of Pope Francis, who since his time studying in Frankfurt in the 1980s had focused on responding to polarizations and on the Church’s mission in favor of unity and universal brotherhood. A scholar alongside Pope Benedict XVI of the philosopher-theologian Romano Guardini, Pope Francis has inspired his pastoral and ecclesial action on these themes, making dialogue, encounter, and conflict resolution the central point of the Church’s Social Doctrine and the evangelizing mission in favor of the weakest,” explains Paolo Garonna, President of the Centesimus Annus pro Pontifice Foundation.
The meeting next May will represent for the Foundation an affectionate memory of Pope Francis and the concrete commitment to continue along the path traced by his most innovative and far-sighted initiatives. “That is why it will address the themes of responsible leadership and economic and social cooperation; the revival of multilateralism, economic and financial integration at a continental and intercontinental level, and the restructuring of debts of vulnerable countries; finally, the focus on the new ‘Theology from the Mediterranean’ and its implications for the Social Doctrine of the Church, interreligious dialogue, and peace in the world. Pope Francis leaves us the Hope of the Jubilee thanks to the many reform and dialogue processes he initiated. It is now up to us to honor his memory by committing to carry them forward and to mature their fruits,” concludes President Garonna.
