To be precise, the horseshoe whip snake is the snake that is “animating” the beaches of the famous resort these days, causing a stir.

It’s almost like calling it an invasion, with the news accompanied by the related videos that has gone viral. Snakes, long enough, spotted in the water swimming, but not only. Their disturbing presence seems to have extended even to parks and residential areas. Enough to turn all this into a screenplay worthy of a dramatic film. All this in Ibiza.

It was immediately clarified that the reptile is not venomous and that it seems to have arrived, perhaps with ornamental plants years ago, but its harmlessness to humans does not rule out the serious ecological threat already underway, not to mention the direct attack on the Podarcis pityusensis lizard, a symbol of the Balearic Islands that is now at high risk of extinction after at least 4000 years.

We are therefore facing a double challenge with two dangerous ridges, on one hand preserving the Balearic Islands and maintaining their infamous tourist appeal, and on the other hand fighting against this highly invasive species of snakes that endangers biodiversity.

And the Isla Blanca, worried, hopes to chase away the nightmare.
