Dance as genesis, vision, and poetic act of cosmic becoming
TREVISO. The show “Cosmos et Terra – A journey through the birth and evolution of the universe” took place with rare coherence and surprising evocative power, as the latest end-of-year performance of the Chòrea Dance School in Treviso, under the artistic direction of Roberta Tonini. A title that already promised a plunge into the primordial mystery of creation and did not disappoint, unfolding not just a simple succession of choreographic scenes, but a true danced cosmogony, a silent poem about the origin of Everything.
From the enigmatic silence that preceded the Big Bang, to the appearance of the Earth pulsating with life, primordial waters, organisms of air and land, the path has unfolded like a thread of Ariadne through the ages of the cosmos, making dance not only an aesthetic language, but a true instrument of philosophical revelation. Every gesture, every arabesque, every suspension in the dancers’ corporeal time has echoed the vibration that generated everything and from which everything descended.
The alternating flow of different styles – classical, contemporary, hip hop, modern – seemed like a coherent reflection of the ordered multiplicity of reality: the classical, with its measure and symmetry, drawing the hidden harmony of the celestial orbits; the contemporary, sinuous and restless, evoking fermenting matter and incessant creation; the hip hop, pulsating and telluric, giving back the tremor of the primal microcosm. A plurality of languages that has never yielded to mere formal exercise, but has become a narrative and expressive necessity.
At the center of everything, like an invisible pivot, is the conception of a universe in constant transformation, narrated through images and suggestions rather than didactic descriptions. The viewer has thus traveled, without realizing it, from the chaos of particles to expanding galaxies, from bright planets to the liquid breath of the primordial sea, all the way to the first forms of animal life and the mysterious adventure of evolution. A dance of matter, therefore, but also of the spirit.
The sophisticated and refined choice of music is not accidental: from Strauss to Max Richter, from Giacchino to Yann Tiersen, each piece has helped to weave the rarefied and suspended atmosphere, emphasizing the dramatic tension or the luminous lightness of the different scenes. The choreographies by Roberta Tonini, Michela Camatta, Marta Bortolan, Dardana Lukaj moved skillfully between abstraction and narrative, between primitive energy and formal composure.
It is impossible not to mention the fundamental role of the visual suggestions signed Eleonora Vanin, 3D Artist and author of the videos that have marked and enriched the staging with powerful and modern images, capable of expanding the scenic space beyond the limits of the stage. Her interventions have given cosmic breath and contemporary vision to the narrative, creating a bridge between the poetic abstraction of dance and the visual imagery of science, technology, and cinema. A happy and perfectly integrated addition to the fabric of the show, which has decisively contributed to making “Cosmos et Terra” an immersive and total experience.
The audience – made up of families, friends, enthusiasts – was thus invited not only to watch, but to meditate, to get lost, as in a Borges labyrinth, among the infinite possibilities of being and becoming.
“Cosmos and Earth” has restored dignity and meaning to the practice of school dance, elevating it to a universal gesture capable of speaking about science, philosophy, poetry, and life. A rare and precious example of how art can still educate wonder, open inner spaces, ignite questions about our place in the cosmos.
A show that will remain imprinted as an unforgettable experience in the memory of those who had the privilege of attending.
