Interview with Leonardo Narduzzi, young founder of Belisama Yacht: “We didn’t adapt the old, we invented the new. This is how CyberCat was born: 100% electric, 100% aluminum, 100% sustainable.”
VENICE. An electric, sustainable, modular, and recyclable catamaran, born not from a multinational corporation, but from the idea of a group of young university students passionate about sailing. It’s called CyberCat, it’s the flagship of Belisama Yacht, and it represents one of the most interesting innovations in the European sustainable boating landscape. The story is told by Leonardo Narduzzi, founder of the start-up and visionary driving force behind the project.
“We started as a group of sea-loving students. We wanted to bring a sustainable perspective to the boating world, but not by trying to adapt old boats. We decided to rethink everything from scratch.”
This gives rise to a different type of boat: CyberCat does not have fiberglass molds, but is made entirely of aluminum, a lightweight, durable, and completely recyclable material. This choice, while ensuring sustainability on one hand, has required the development of a new modular technology, currently in the patent phase.
“Thanks to this modular system we can build boats of different sizes simply by varying the number of modules. No need for rigid molds: we lengthen and widen the vessel according to the requirements, reducing time and costs.”
A modularity that does not only involve the structure, but also the cover. CyberCat can transform into a pleasure boat, cargo ship, passenger transport, or waste collection vehicle, as in the case of the specimen presented by Narduzzi.
“On this model, we have installed a tape for collecting floating debris and a filter for microplastics. It is designed to operate in channels, lagoons, and seas, where the presence of plastic is critical and maneuvering space is limited.”
To make everything even more functional is the propulsion developed in collaboration with Yamaha, which ensures precision and maneuverability even in the most complex environments.
“Our boat was born to move with agility in inland and marine waters. This is why we have chosen efficient, silent, and easy-to-control electric propulsion.”
CyberCat is therefore much more than a boat. It is the result of a project that combines environmental sustainability, technological innovation, and a radically new way of thinking, capable of revolutionizing the way we build and conceive boats.
And the secret ingredient? Passion.
“It was not an epiphany, but an idea that matured over time, born out of love for the sea and the desire to do something useful and new. We believed that another way to sail was possible. And we built it.”
Belisama Yacht, with CyberCat, not only promises a greener future for yachting, but also demonstrates that innovation can (and should) start from the ideas, research, and determination of the new generations.
