Action Against Hunger launches a national campaign in Milan, bringing together institutions, businesses, and citizens to stop food emergencies in Italy and around the world.
MILAN – Ending hunger is possible — together. With this message, a new edition of the Days Against Hunger kicks off: the major annual mobilization promoted by Action Against Hunger, uniting families, businesses, institutions, schools, restaurants, media outlets, and content creators to defend everyone’s right to food and proper nutrition.
The first event will take place on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Triennale di Milano (Viale Emilio Alemagna, 6), where the “Map of the 10 (+3) Most Critical Global Food Emergencies” will be unveiled in the presence of Antonio Tajani, Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The Food Crisis Map
The map, created by Action Against Hunger using data from the Global Report on Food Crises 2025 and The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World 2025, highlights the regions most severely affected by food insecurity.
The ten countries with the highest number of people lacking regular access to food are: Nigeria, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Yemen, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Myanmar, and Syria. In addition, three particularly dire situations are emphasized — South Sudan, Haiti, and the Gaza Strip — where a large part of the population is facing extreme hunger.
But it’s not just about numbers: the map also includes field testimonies and outlines concrete actions, co-designed with local communities and institutional partners, aiming to turn emergency responses into long-term pathways for resilience and self-reliance.
The presentation will also address the situation in Italy, with insights from Simone Garroni, Executive Director of Action Against Hunger Italy, and Livia Celardo, a researcher from ISTAT, who will present the latest national data on food insecurity.
What’s Next
The Days Against Hunger campaign will continue with several key initiatives:
- November 2025 – Chamber of Deputies: The presentation of the Atlas of Hunger in Italy, developed with ISTAT and the University of Milan, which will explore inequalities in food access and welfare policies across the country.
- October 16 – December 31, 2025: A nationwide awareness and fundraising campaign, featuring TV ads, multimedia initiatives, and online content developed in collaboration with educators and content creators.
