MUNICH (GERMANY) – A winning debut for the Italian team at the European Taekwondo Championships that started yesterday in Munich, Germany. Dennis Baretta won the bronze medal in the -68 kg category after three consecutive victories before being stopped in the semifinals.
An important victory, the result of a great match, but above all it brings the blue team a significant advancement in the world ranking.
Baretta started in the round of 16 against the Luxembourger Sekou Coulybaly, defeating him 2-1 with a score of 5-3 / 7-6 / 8-0. In the quarter-finals, it was the turn of the home player, the German Emre Cavusman, where the Italian lost the second set 16-17 but then came back to win 24-9.
The quarter-finals against the Hungarian Levente Mark Jozsa were much more contested, ending 2-1 with scores of 9-12 / 7-7 / 10-7. In the semi-finals, there was a defeat against the Turkish Berkay Erer, who triumphed 2-0. Nevertheless, the blue athlete secured a beautiful bronze medal, the first at the Senior European Championships.
