The historic peace agreement in the Middle East signed yesterday in Egypt has one absolute protagonist: Donald Trump
The Egyptian summit made things clear, with the former tycoon, the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, host of the event, and other skilled weavers of peace who led to the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, as well as the complete release of the hostages still held by the Palestinian fundamentalists.
The other far-sighted builders of this outcome, destined to go down in history, are none other than the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and the Turkish President Erdogan — absolute protagonists of the peace plan.
To negotiate is to take a bit of a risk, and once hostilities cease, phase two begins — the tougher one — which envisions a new beginning, a near future that must include peace, moral values, and all the joy of living one’s land, raising the banner of freedom and of one’s existence.
Peace 2025 — this is the slogan, with Donald Trump declaring: “It’s an incredible day for the Middle East — it took three thousand years to get here.” And when the signatures began to appear on the historic agreement, all the leaders present at the summit applauded in unison. Confirming their approval, sacred and predictable. But the most difficult and treacherous steps toward a lasting peace begin right away.
With the first clouds already appearing on the horizon and the Board for the transitional administration becoming painfully topical. In the background, the upcoming conference on reconstruction, set to take place in Cairo. In the meantime, however, the game becomes immediately decisive, with obstacles that are anything but trivial — starting from geopolitical myopias.
All that is hoped for today is that Sharm will truly be a starting point for further meetings, with the hope for agreements and lasting peace. And it is on this that Donald Trump’s great bet is played out — today the absolute protagonist, but also the probable guarantor of peace, beyond the truce and ceasefire.
