Paolo Camanni in the J1 -70kg category and Simone Cannizzaro in the J1 -81kg category win a splendid double silver at the World Cup in Tbilisi
TBILISI (GEORGIA) – Almost perfect start for the Italian National Team of Judo Fispic at the World Cup in Tbilisi, Georgia. On the first day of competitions, Paolo Camanni won silver in the J1 -70kg category. The same result for Simone Cannizzaro in the J1 -81kg.
A good result for both visually impaired athletes that brings valuable points in the qualification journey towards the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
Paolo Camanni was defeated in the final by the Romanian Florin Alexandru Bologa. Previously, he had eliminated in the quarter-finals Seb Sloot (Netherlands) and in the semi-finals the Frenchman Armindo Rodrigues.
In the J1 -81kg category, the protagonist of an extraordinary journey, unfortunately interrupted just a step away from victory, is Simone Cannizzaro. The Brescia judoka, in fact, after the semifinal experienced a rib issue that forced him to withdraw from the gold medal match against the Kazakh Bexultan Kulmurza. Previously, he had won against the Korean Donghoon Kim in the quarterfinals and the Kazakh Galymzhan Smagululy in the semifinals.
The other blue competitor, Federico Dura, is eliminated in the round of 16 against the Turkish Recep Ciftci.
The blue staff present in Tbilisi is satisfied with the technical director of Fispic Judo, Francesco Faraldo, technical collaborators Gaspare Mazzeo and Carlo Scognamiglio, physiotherapist Christianpasquale Visciano, and ophthalmologist consultant Filippo Amore. Tomorrow it will be the turn of Valerio Romano Teodori (J1 -95kg), Michela Peli (J2 +70kg), and Carolina Costa (J2 +70kg).
