Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini win the WTA 1000 title in Beijing for the second year in a row. It’s the fourth title of the season for the Italian duo, following their triumphs in Doha, Rome, and Paris.
BEIJING (CHINA) – China continues to be a land of victories for Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini. Just two weeks after their triumph in the Billie Jean King Cup, the Italian duo has made history by becoming the first team ever to win the doubles title at the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing two years in a row.
With a comeback win—6-7(1), 6-3, 10-2—over Japan’s Miyu Kato and Hungary’s Fanny Stollar, the Italians claimed their fourth title of the season, fifth at the WTA 1000 level, and ninth overall, including the gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Errani, now with 36 career doubles titles, becomes the active player with the most doubles titles on tour. Already mathematically qualified for the WTA Finals in Riyadh, the pair will remain in China for the tournaments in Wuhan and Ningbo before heading to Tokyo.
The Match
While Stollar and Kato were playing together for the first time, Errani and Paolini—an experienced and cohesive duo—faced early pressure, nearly dropping serve in the opening game. In the eighth game, the 2025 Roland Garros champions had three break points, but failed to convert. The set went to a tiebreak, where Stollar gave her team a quick 2–0 lead. Errani responded, but the opponents didn’t look back and closed out the tiebreak 7–1.
The second set began with Stollar serving and immediately facing two break points. This time, the Italians took advantage, going up 1–0 and holding serve to consolidate. From there, they took control, as the Japanese-Hungarian team struggled to respond. A second break sealed the set for the Italians.
In the match tiebreak, Errani and Paolini started strong, quickly jumping to a 3–0 lead with two mini-breaks, then extending the gap. Kato and Stollar clawed back one point to make it 4–1, but the Italians were in full command, racing ahead to 9–2 and earning seven match points. They converted on the very first opportunity—securing yet another title and once again being crowned the queens of Beijing.
