CAIRO (EGYPT) – The Italian foil confirms its status as a world superpower. After the gold and silver in the individual event from Martina Favaretto and Martina Batini, the double team victory arrives for a fitting conclusion to the World Cup stage in Cairo.
First Guillaume Bianchi, Filippo Macchi, Tommaso Marini, and Giulio Lombardi win against Hong Kong 45-43 for their third victory of the season, then Arianna Errigo, Martina Favaretto, Martina Batini, and Anna Cristino defeat France 45-40 and secure their fourth win in as many seasonal events of the top world circuit.
The next appointment for the foil, both men’s and women’s, will be the World Cup stage in Istanbul from April 30 to May 3.
Male Success
The men’s team returns to the top of the podium in the World Cup. After victories in the stages of Palma de Maiorca and Fukuoka, with the disappointment of Paris, the blues also win the Egyptian event.
The quartet composed of Guillaume Bianchi, Filippo Macchi, Tommaso Marini, and Giulio Lombardi first wins against Taipei with a score of 45-20. In the quarter-finals, it’s the turn of China, easily defeated 45-28. A wide victory also against Spain with a score of 45-31.
Much tighter was the final against Hong Kong, won at the last hit with a score of 45-43.
Women’s Poker
Shortly after, it’s the turn of the blue team to let the anthem of Mameli resonate. Arianna Errigo, Martina Favaretto, Martina Batini, and Anna Cristino began their journey by defeating Taipei 45-20. A straightforward victory followed against Ukraine with a score of 45-31. In the semifinals, it was the turn of Japan, defeated 41-38.
In the final, France and the Dream Team win with a score of 45-40, marking their fourth victory out of four in the World Cup this season.
