Who is Hason Ward
Born in Saint Thomas, in the Barbados, on September 24, 2000, Ward is a forward holding dual citizenship of Barbados and Rwanda. Despite his imposing physique, explosiveness and timing for blocking are his main assets.
Moved to the United States at a young age, he attended Springfield Central High School in Massachusetts, where he immediately showcased his incredible defensive talent, recording as many as 22 blocks in a single game.
At the collegiate level, he first wore the jersey of Virginia Commonwealth University (from 2019 to 2022), being named to the Atlantic 10 All-Defensive Team in 2021. Later, he transferred to Iowa State University (from 2022 to 2024), also standing out for his aerial skills which earned him a call-up for the slam dunk contest at the College Slam Dunk and 3 Point Championship in 2024.
In the 2024 Summer League, he stood out with the Sacramento Kings. He then signed a deal with the Boston Celtics, before officially joining the NBA G League with the Maine Celtics, with whom he has just completed the season.
Previously, he was also a key player in the Canadian league (CEBL) with the Scarborough Shooting Stars between 2024 and 2025. Internationally, in July 2025, he was included in the preliminary roster of the Rwanda national team to prepare for the AfroBasket 2025.
He has just completed the season in the NBA G League with the jersey of the Maine Celtics, confirming his skills on the court. In 45 games, Ward recorded averages of 9.6 points and 6.1 total rebounds (of which 2.0 offensive) in 22.1 minutes of play. Highlighting his great effectiveness near the basket is the 60.7% shooting from two-point range, while defensively he finished with a total of 74 blocks, averaging 1.6 per game.
