On June 2nd, it was also the International Day of Awareness on Eating Disorders (EDs). For this occasion, the Presidency of the City Council of Venice, in collaboration with Ulss 3 Serenissima and the association La Fenice Odv, is promoting a series of meetings to discuss eating disorders.
MESTRE (VE). “These meetings are part of the activities that the Municipality of Venice has been promoting for years to raise awareness about eating disorders,” said President Damiano, “and to mobilize all possible resources to address them. It is a real social emergency and there is still much to be done, but recovery is possible: the sooner we understand the problem and intervene promptly, the higher the chances of helping the patients and their families. These are diseases that affect both girls and boys at increasingly younger ages, so we must always keep the spotlight on and network with associations and local health authorities (Ulss).”
The first meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 11 at 8:30 PM in the Conference Room of the Candiani Cultural Center in Mestre, and will be titled “Nutrition and Eating Disorders: Understanding for Prevention, the Service Network, Families as a Resource.” In addition to doctors and specialists, during the evening attendees will have the opportunity to hear from teacher and author Sandra Zodiaco, as well as Federica Sartori, a parent and member of the Fenice association. “Our goal is to create moments of discussion and information,” explained President Bertomoro, “because it is essential for young people and families to be aware of the services provided by public health to address the illness and, above all, to prevent it.”
For this purpose, the Fenice association was founded in 2006 in Portogruaro, providing support to families and patients affected by Eating Disorders. The association, which also has an office in Venice, among its many activities, organizes support groups for both individuals with Eating Disorders and their families, creating a reference network in the area and enabling services and associations to work together synergistically to reach as many people as possible. To learn about the initiatives, meetings, and support groups in the territory of the Municipality of Venice and the Metropolitan City, you can visit the association’s website at www.feniceonlus.it. In the coming weeks, the dates and topics of the upcoming meetings will also be announced, taking place from June to January of next year in Marcon, Chioggia, Mirano, and Venice.
