Penultimate qualification round for EuroBasket 2025. Pozzecco selects the 12 players for today’s game against Turkey
ISTANBUL – With access already guaranteed to the final stage of EuroBasket 2025, Italy’s national basketball team coached by Pozzecco is getting ready to play the penultimate match of Group B in Istanbul against Turkey today at 6:30 PM (Italian time) with live coverage on DAZN and Sky Sport Arena. Even though both teams have already secured their spot in the continental tournament, it will be a challenge not to be underestimated in order to compete for the first place in the group and improve the FIBA ranking.
Then, on Sunday 23rd at 8:30 PM (live on DAZN and Sky Sport Uno), the Azzurri will face Hungary in the last match of the Group in a PalaCalafiore in Reggio Calabria that is already sold out.
With Nico Mannion and Totè out due to injury, Pozzecco has called up Davide Casarin, Francesco Ferrari, Sasha Grant, and Matteo Librizzi for the match. The captain of this “young Italy” will be 25-year-old Alessandro Pajola in his fiftieth appearance for the national team.
The Segafredo Virtus Bologna player commented on the Turkish challenge as follows:
“It is a great honor to be the Captain of the National team even for these two matches. For me it will be a responsibility but also and above all a pleasure to be the guide of a very young and at the same time very talented group. It may sound trivial to say that every match with the National team counts, but it’s exactly like that. We are qualified, it’s true, but here in Istanbul the first place in the group is at stake and we care a lot about it. They are a physical, tough team and will want to win at home. We, on the other hand, are here to surprise them and then present ourselves in Reggio Calabria to aim for a back-to-back victory in front of a PalaCalafiore that is about to reach the sold-out”.
There are 11 teams already qualified for EuroBasket 2025 (August 27/September 14, 2025): Slovenia, Israel, Italy, Turkey, Latvia (host country, one group and final phase), Spain, Cyprus (host country), Serbia, Finland (host country), Lithuania, and Poland (host country)
