2 Mins read

The University Iuav of Venice ranks among the top ten universities in the world for the teaching of Art History, which in the Anglo-Saxon system also includes the History of Architecture, according to the new edition of the QS World University Ranking, the international ranking of the most authoritative universities globally

Venice. The ranking, published by the analysts of QS Quacquarelli Symonds, a reference point for the choice of the best international universities, examined 1700 universities (including 56 Italian ones) in 100 countries and territories, covering 55 academic disciplines.

Compared to last year, Iuav has climbed six positions, moving from fifteenth to ninth place. An extraordinary result that rewards in particular the excellence of the historical-theoretical studies on the arts at Iuav, with an academic reputation that obtained a score of 93.7/100. A result that bodes well for the inauguration, scheduled for this year, of the new Master’s Degree in “Curating Arts and Heritage in Intercultural perspectives” in English: a training proposal with an international scope, unique in Italy, which integrates curation, interculturality, and design dimension, to train new professional figures capable of designing curation activities for cultural heritage broadly defined (visual arts, architecture, archaeology, visual cultures, and ethnographic universes).

Iuav also confirms itself among the top 100 universities in the world in the field of Architecture and Planning (ranking in the 51-100 bracket), and among the top 150 in the field of Design and Arts (101-150 bracket).

Rector Benno Albrecht commented with satisfaction on the result achieved: “This result rewards Iuav, a university specialized in design disciplines and with a tradition of excellence in historical studies, but it also brings Venice to the forefront in the international academic scene. This year, together with the new Water Campus for education and research on water and sea-related topics, we are inaugurating the Arts Campus in Venice. Our design horizon is Venice City Campus, in partnership with the city’s institutions, and a recognition of our University is also a recognition of Venice as a city of study, knowledge, and research.”

Due to its size, Iuav does not fall into the general ranking but is evaluated by thematic areas based on 4 indicators: academic reputation, employer reputation, research citation per paper, H-Index. The first two indicators measure the overall academic reputation and the appreciation of graduates by international recruiters, while the latter two measure the impact of research (how often publications are cited) and productivity, that is, the quantity of originated research.
