Third medal for Italy at the 2026 European Taekwondo Championships. Ludovico Iurlaro won it in the -63 kg category
MUNICH (GERMANY) – Third day of competitions at the 2026 Senior European Taekwondo Championships and third consecutive medal for Italy. After the bronze of Dennis Baretta in the -68 kg category, and the splendid silver of sixteen-year-old Abderrahman Touiar in the -58 kg category, another beautiful bronze arrives.
To conquer it Ludovico Iurlaro in the -63 kg category, thus bringing the Azzurra team among the best in the continent. The blue athlete was skilled in increasing his intensity from match to match, conceding only in the semifinals.
Iurlaro won the first challenge in the round of 16 against the Portuguese Dmytry Agapov, winning 2-0 (17-16 / 26-11). In the quarter-finals, another clear victory against the Ukrainian Samir Mirzoiev, defeated 2-0 (26-10 / 15-0). In the semi-finals, the most challenging match against the Romanian Ernest Merdanaj, defeated 2-0 (20-5 / 15-0).
A completely different story in the semifinals where the blue player lost 2-0 (22-25 / 16-32) to the Norwegian Kristian Storsul Borgen. Iurlaro still brings home a great bronze that highlights the athlete’s journey and growth.
