The Mythos Festival 2026 kicks off in Treviso with the Olimpia and the Seventh Art showcase, a journey that combines cinema and sports, telling stories of athletes and competition through the lens of great directors. The initiative, realized in collaboration with the Cineforum Labirinto Association and supported by Banca Prealpi SanBiagio, will take place at the Teatro La Stanza
TREVISO. The early cinema of Stanley Kubrick will open, on Thursday, March 26 in Treviso, the new series Olimpia and the Seventh Art, among the most significant novelties of the Mythos 2026 Festival. An opening that is not only programmatic but explicitly symbolic: returning to the roots of one of the greatest authors of the twentieth century to tell, through sport, the birth of a cinematic perspective destined to change the history of cinema.
At the Teatro La Stanza, at 8:30 PM, the audience will have the rare opportunity to see on the big screen Day of the Fight, Kubrick’s very first work. Filmed in 1951 and born from a photo shoot for the magazine Look, the short film follows boxer Walter Cartier in the hours leading up to a decisive match. It’s all there: the almost obsessive attention to detail, the rhythm built on the time of waiting, the tension between body and fate.
Boxing, more than a sport, becomes an existential condition. Kubrick observes, does not judge, and constructs a dry, almost documentary narrative that anticipates his future poetics.
Thursday, March 26 – Kubrick and Boxing
The opening night is dedicated to Stanley Kubrick, featuring the screening of the short film Day of the Fight (1951), based on a photo essay for Look, which follows the boxer Walter Cartier in the hours leading up to an important match.
Following is Kubrick’s first feature film, The Killing, a noir that tells the story of boxer Davey Gordon and the fate that awaits him after a crucial defeat. The evening will be commented on by Professor Marco Bellano from the University of Padua.
Thursday, April 9 – “Machan” by Uberto Pasolini
The film Machan tells the true story of two friends from Sri Lanka who, despite not being athletes, create a fake handball team to participate in a tournament in Germany and seek a better future. A tale of irony and determination, where sport becomes a means to face life and its obstacles.
Thursday, May 7 – “Appointment in Belleville” by Sylvain Chomet
The cycle concludes with the animated film The Triplets of Belleville, nominated for an Oscar. The story follows Champion, a young cyclist raised under the careful guidance of his grandmother, as he faces incredible challenges in his dream of participating in the Tour de France. Hard work, passion, and loyalty take center stage on screen in a poetic and original visual style.
The review thus offers a dialogue between past and present, between Kubrick’s classic cinema and modern narratives, highlighting the universal values of sport: effort, endurance, fall and redemption, told with intensity and poetry.
