Tuesday, September 23 at 8:15 PM: Special Screening of Fellini’s Masterpiece
VENICE – On Tuesday, September 23, at 8:15 PM, the Rossini multiplex will host a special screening of La Dolce Vita, Federico Fellini’s masterpiece, in a version accessible to people with hearing and visual impairments.
The initiative, organized on the occasion of the film’s 65th anniversary, is part of a campaign aimed at raising awareness and making the cinematic experience increasingly inclusive. The goal is to permanently integrate accessible versions into regular programming, just as is already done with original-language screenings, moving beyond the idea that accessibility concerns only people with clearly defined disabilities and opening it up to a wide and diverse audience.
“The municipal administration led by Mayor Brugnaro has always implemented inclusive policies, with significant investments, to engage all citizens and visitors who choose Venice,” emphasizes Giorgia Pea, Councilor for Cultural Activities, Cinema, and Theatre. “Cinema is a collective passion, and for this reason it is essential to intervene to support all potential users, including those with disabilities, allowing everyone to share in the city’s cultural offerings.”
A Shared Project
The accessible version of La Dolce Vita is the result of collaboration between Filmstudio, CSC–Cineteca Nazionale, and +Cultura Accessibile–Cinemanchìo, which for years have worked to offer classic films with subtitles and audio descriptions for people with sensory disabilities.
The simplified (intra-linguistic) subtitles will be displayed directly on the screen, while the audio description will be available via the free EarCatch app by SubTi, downloadable from the Apple Store and Google Play.
Viewers who wish to use it are invited to:
- Download the app and register with their email;
- Download the film’s audio description before the screening, from the “Download” section;
- Connect their headphones;
- Press “Play” at the start of the film.
Presentations and Services
In addition to Councilor Pea, the evening will feature Elti Cattaruzza, Delegate of the Rector for the Inclusion of Students with Disabilities and DSA, and Vice-Rector for the Right to Study and Student Services. A LIS (Italian Sign Language) interpreter will also be present.
