On Wednesday, May 21st, the third event of the “Mythos” festival inspired by the exhibition “Mary Magdalene and the Cross. Sublime Love” will take place at the Santa Caterina Museum.

Two great saints and women in a comparison in an imaginary dialogue Wednesday, May 21 (7:30 pm) at the Museo Santa Caterina in Treviso, appointment of “Classics at the museum” in the program of the classic theater festival “Mythos”, proposed by the association Tema Cultura and inspired by the exhibition “Magdalene and the Cross. Sublime Love“, in collaboration with the Civic Museums. At the center of the stage will be the almost specular stories of two saints venerated by the Catholic Church.
One is Mary Magdalene, or Mary of Magdala, who according to the New Testament and the Apocryphal Gospels was the most important and devoted disciple of Jesus. According to the Gospels, she was among the pious women who witnessed the Crucifixion and was the first eyewitness and announcer of Christ’s resurrection. The other extraordinary woman is Joan of Arc, the Maid of Orléans, the national heroine of France who victoriously led the French armies against the English. Captured by the Burgundians, she was sold by a vassal to the King of England. Tried for heresy, she was condemned to be burned at the stake and was executed on May 30, 1431. Pope Benedict XV canonized her in 1920.
Giovanna Cordova, artistic director of “Mythos,” has constructed a textual adaptation that brings together the disciple loved by the Lord and she who fought in the name of the Lord. Two different ways of expressing the act of faith that are still emblematic in the present. Giving voice to Mary Magdalene and Joan of Arc will be the young actors of Compagnia Tema Academy, who will move from one room to another in the exhibition tour, performing the theatrical readings, following the guided tour by Fabrizio Malachin, curator of the exhibition and director of the Treviso Civic Museums.
The audience will be able to follow the theatrical path for free, but entrance to the exhibition is required with a reduced ticket of 10 euros (instead of 13), to be purchased at the ticket office of the Santa Caterina Museum (piazzetta Mario Botter 1) before the visit. On Wednesday, May 28, “Classics at the museum,” always at Santa Caterina, will present “Dinner with Lysistrata – Make Love, Not War,” a show with the Tema Academy Company to be enjoyed while having a candlelit dinner, seated in the museum’s cloister.
