Asolo hosted the regional coordination of the Association “The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy”. Andrea Chiereghini was elected as the regional coordinator of the association and Alessandro Gardoni as the representative of Veneto in the national council
Asolo (TV) – Yesterday, the meeting of the Regional Coordination of the association “The Most Beautiful Villages of Italy” took place in the Council Chamber in Asolo, convened to proceed with the replacement of the role of Regional Coordinator – a position previously held by the former Mayor of Follina, Mario Collet – and to appoint the Representative of Veneto in the national council of the association. The meeting was attended by the representatives of the Venetian villages that are part of the network, including Asolo, who also discussed the prospects for development and enhancement of historical centers of excellence in the context of new trends in international tourism. During the meeting, the following were unanimously elected: Andrea Chiereghini (Councillor for Tourism of Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella) as Regional Coordinator of the association and Alessandro Gardoni (Mayor of Valeggio sul Mincio) as the Representative of Veneto in the national council.
“Hosting the Regional Coordination of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy in Asolo has been a great source of satisfaction because it confirms the role that villages play today in the contemporary tourism landscape – comments the municipal tourism assessor, Beatrice Bonsembiante – More and more travelers are seeking authentic experiences that connect them with local communities, nature, and traditions. Villages represent exactly this: places where time and relationships maintain a more human dimension and where cultural heritage becomes a lived experience.”
The theme of enhancing villages is also part of the broader international debate on sustainable and quality tourism. In recent years, in fact, the choice of destinations is no longer driven solely by “what to do,” but by the search for atmospheres and territorial identities capable of offering an immersive and authentic experience. In this context, Veneto can count on important international recognitions: Asolo and Arquà Petrarca have indeed entered in 2025 the UN network of Best Tourism Villages, while Montagnana was included in the same year in the Upgrade program linked to the initiative. Asolo and Follina are also part of the international Cittaslow circuit which promotes a lifestyle and hospitality related to the quality of the territory and sustainability. Great attention towards villages also comes from the Ministry of Tourism, which at the International Forum last January dedicated ample space to the theme of “undertourism,” that is, the promotion of alternative destinations to the most congested places by mass tourism, capable of offering a more balanced relationship between visitor, culture, and environment.
«The villages represent a concrete response to this new demand for tourism – adds Bonsembiante – They are places that preserve strong identities and, precisely for this reason, can build networks of collaboration and common strategies for enhancement. The meeting in Asolo goes in this direction, also because it represents an important step for discussion and preparation for the National Assembly of the Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, scheduled in Trevi (PG) from May 29 to 31».

This meeting indeed gives rise to the possibility of a collaborative path that I hope will lead to the establishment of the Veneto network as an association as soon as possible. The goal is to be able to engage in an increasingly structured and concrete dialogue with the Region to develop shared future projects for the enhancement of our territories”.
