Treviso – The Women’s Council of Treviso celebrates the International Day of the Girl with two days of events focused on inclusion, equal opportunities, and urban space
Since 1972, the Consulta Femminile di Treviso—the Women’s Council of Treviso, a body that brings together local associations engaged in women’s issues—has promoted a significant initiative for October 11, a day that aims to support female empowerment by investing in education and training to combat discrimination and violence.
THE PROGRAM
October 10 – Urban Workshop “MAKING SPACE”, in collaboration with the Equal Opportunities Committee of the Treviso Order of Architects, Planners, Landscapers and Conservators (OAPPC), the OAPPC of Treviso, and the FATV – Treviso Architecture Foundation, the morning of October 10 will be dedicated to the experiential and educational workshop “MAKING SPACE. URBAN WORKSHOP.”
The aim is to encourage students to engage in a critical reading of the spaces they inhabit, fostering reflection on inclusive use of space, with attention to gender, minorities, and disability.
Participants will include 62 students from classes 3^A, 4^A, and 5^A of the Architecture programme at the Treviso State Art High School. The venue is OAPPC TV / Piazza delle Istituzioni, Treviso.
The programme will feature contributions from architect and builder Arianna Bordignon (@cantieriribelli) and architect Pierpaolo Tonin, who will open a discussion on the role of women in construction and design, the inclusive use of natural materials, and tactical urbanism through participatory processes for spatial regeneration.
Weather permitting, the activity will culminate at 11:30 AM with the construction of a small ephemeral architecture in Piazza delle Istituzioni.
Institutional greetings will be delivered by Dr Francesca Neroni, President of the Women’s Council of Treviso, and architect Elisa Rizzato, President of the Treviso OAPPC.
October 11 – Public Event “Rights and Wrongs” (09:00–12:00)
Celebrations will continue on October 11 with the public event “Rights and Wrongs. Where we stand on gender equality. Opportunities for the new generations and the resistance of the glass ceiling.”
Venue: Leonardo Da Vinci State Scientific High School, Treviso.
Objective: To inspire the younger generations, especially female students, to pursue any career path without being hindered by gender stereotypes or the pressures of the so-called “glass ceiling.”
Opening remarks will be given by Francesca Neroni, President of the Women’s Council, followed by an introduction by Rina Camporese (Senior Researcher at Istat), who will present a data snapshot on university degrees and employmentamong young men and women.
The programme will include a Round Table: “Personal Stories”, featuring professionals and notable figures sharing real-life examples of overcoming barriers, including:
- Claudia Acquistucci, lawyer
- Sara Barattin and Giulia Bragante, rugby players (Villorba Rugby)
- Valentina Cremona, CEO of Leonardo 1999 and Vice President of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Committee of the Treviso-Belluno Chamber of Commerce
- Alessandra Mastrobuono Battisti, researcher at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Padua
- Elisa Rizzato, architect and President of OAPPC Treviso
- Gloria Tessarolo, Councillor for Social Policies of the Municipality of Treviso
The round table will be moderated by Carlo Maria Righetto, journalist and Vice President of the Equal Opportunities Commission of the Municipality of Treviso.The initiative is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Treviso and its Equal Opportunities Commission.
