A concert to celebrate Gallucci’s legacy and forty years of transplants that have changed the history of Italian medicine
PADOVA. In 1985, a medical intervention destined to change history saved a life for the first time thanks to a heart transplant performed in Italy. Forty years later, that date continues to represent a historic turning point not only for the world of medicine but for thousands of people who, thanks to advances in cardiac surgery, have been able to receive a second chance at life.
To celebrate this extraordinary anniversary, Thursday, December 4th at 8:45 PM, the city of Padua will host a commemorative concert at the Padova Congress – Sala Giotto. The event, which is free to enter with mandatory reservation, aims to pay tribute to a scientific endeavor that has revolutionized the history of modern medicine.
A tribute to the pioneer Gallucci and the legacy carried on by Gino Gerosa
The concert is dedicated to the figure of Vincenzo Gallucci, a pioneer of Italian cardiac surgery and the protagonist of the first heart transplant performed in our country. His act, the result of competence, courage, and vision, paved the way for a new future for patients suffering from severe heart conditions, who until then were destined for inevitable death.
The tribute is not just a memory, but also a recognition of the scientific and human legacy passed on by Gallucci to his students. First among them Gino Gerosa, who has been able to carry on and develop with dedication the teachings of his Master, contributing to making Padua one of the most advanced cardiac surgery centers in Europe. The evening thus represents a symbolic passing of the baton, in the spirit of continuity and evolution.

On stage will perform the Orchestra of Padua and Veneto, conducted by Marco Angius, with the participation of soprano Daniela Cappiello and tenor Marco Ciaponi. The program includes music by great Italian and European composers – Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Strauss – chosen to pay tribute to the beauty, emotion, and evocative power of music, a universal language capable of uniting science, memory, and hope.
