Palm Sunday

2 Mins read

That day in Jerusalem was truly a great celebration, a triumph for Jesus. But the joy of that morning in Jerusalem becomes full and true at Easter.

Let us celebrate Jesus because we are celebrating Easter, because we participate in His Easter which thus becomes our Easter in the everyday life. This is a wonderful life program: life as a continuous celebration to Jesus and with Jesus!

I live each day as if tomorrow is always a celebration. Live today as if tomorrow is always a celebration! Live every today as if every tomorrow is always a celebration! The eve, filled with hope, of the celebration that will never set!

The feast and triumph of Jerusalem, which reaches its peak at Easter, awaits its universal revelation in the fullness of the new heavens and the new earth.

I dream of Christians and Christian communities that always keep alive the sense of celebration, song, dance, taste, and smile to manifest and testify to everyone the joy that grips you deep in your soul. We all need a Church that is a home and school of joy and celebration, where we exchange good and serene smiles.

We all need this beautiful, festive, and welcoming family that truly offers hope and comfort, to live and witness together the joy and celebration. Just like that day in Jerusalem!

And then, let us take the time necessary to live the Holy Week and Easter intensely. One thing is all the more important to us the more time we dedicate to it. So let us dedicate time.

A time to listen to the word of Jesus, in silence and in prayer, like Mary of Bethany, nestled at the feet of the Lord, for she has chosen the better part that will not be taken away from her.

Once it is time to let Jesus, servant out of love, wash our feet, and also our hands and head, as He did with Peter, to learn that a servant is not greater than his master and that if He, Lord and Teacher, has washed our feet, we must also wash one another’s feet. Servant out of love, Jesus! Servants out of love, we, His friends!

Once to lie in the bosom of Jesus, like John, and to hear ourselves called “friend,” to keep in our hearts the Lord’s supreme command: “As I have loved you, so you must love one another” (John 13:34).

A time to be with Mary, the Mother, and to accompany her in this hour when “a sword pierces her soul” (cf. Lk 2:35), and to hear the words of love from Jesus: “Woman, behold your son,” addressed to us: “Behold your Mother!” (Jn 19:26-27), and, like John, to welcome her into our home.

Let us consume, therefore, a time that leaves a mark on us, slowly, day by day, until the radiant dawn of the Resurrection.
