For the second time in his career, Riccardo Pianosi becomes European champion. The Italian sailor flies over the waters of Urla, in Turkey, the venue of the European kite event.
The young athlete from Marche took the lead in the standings from the very first race, earning a spot in the final of the medal series. In the final, he lost to the two-time world champion Maximilian Maeder, who was competing for Singapore and therefore did not count for the continental title.
Pianosi thus confirms his role as number one in Europe after winning the championship in Portsmouth two years ago. Silver medal for the Swiss Gian Andrea Stragiotti and bronze for the Greek Cameron Maramenides. The women’s race, on the other hand, was won by the French Lauriane Nolot, who immediately won in the final race-1. Silver for the British Lily Young and bronze for the other French competitor Lysa Caval.
