Jannik Sinner has been awarded the Golden Collar for sporting merit, the highest honor in Italian sports. His coach Vagnozzi was also honored.
ROME – He has not even had time to return to the field after his disqualification, and already Jannik Sinner is receiving his first honors. The Italian tennis player was the absolute protagonist of 2024. With victories at the two slams in Australia and the United States, the ATP Finals, and the conquest of the Davis Cup, Sinner became the first Italian in history to reach number 1 in the ATP rankings.
For these reasons, yesterday he received the Golden Collar for Sporting Merit (the highest honor in Italian sports) from the President of CONI, Giovanni Malagò, and from the Secretary General, Carlo Mornati, while coach Simone Vagnozzi was awarded the Golden Palm for Technical Merit.
In recent days, the same honor had been received by the other adventure companions in the Davis Lorenzo Musetti (bronze at the 2024 Olympics in Paris and fresh entry into the ATP Top Ten) and Matteo Berrettini. Yet another sign that Italian tennis at the moment is at the top worldwide both in men’s and women’s levels, as shown by the results of Jasmine Paolini (also in partnership with the eternal Sara Errani).
Jannik Sinner then commented as follows:
“It is definitely one of the most prestigious awards of my career. It goes beyond personal achievements. It is very nice to share successes wearing the Azzurri shirt. Receiving the support of the people gives me a lot of strength for years, especially in difficult moments. Last year was not easy: the most beautiful thing was sharing the triumphs with Italian fans. Not only when things are going well. It’s special”
