COVERCIANO – For a National team that fails to qualify for the World Cup for the third consecutive time, there is another one that is chasing the dream of being at the World Cup again after the thrilling experience in France in 2019 and the much more bitter experience in Australia and New Zealand in 2023.
Of course, we are talking about the Women’s National Football Team which in recent years has certainly brought more joy than the men’s team. An exciting European Championship, in which the Azzurre came one minute away from the final, has led the players to be recognized throughout Italy, and the strongest among them have finally been given the opportunity to play in the US Championship, the most important in the world.
Now it’s time to get serious and start winning again. After the two home matches in March against Sweden and Denmark, Italy will return to the field on April 14 in Leskovac against Serbia (6:15 PM, Rai 2) and on the 18th in Copenhagen (3 PM) again against the Danes.
A challenging run since to access the final phase of the World Cup tournament directly, Italy must win the group, currently sitting at just one point from the draw with the Danes obtained in Vicenza. Otherwise, the looming threat is always the same: the double playoff. A big win is needed right away to regain that victory that has been missing since the quarter-finals against Norway.
For the second gathering of 2026, the coach Andrea Soncin has called up 27 players for the training camp that will start on Tuesday. First call-up to the senior national team for the defender of Ternana Marika Massimino. Aurora Galli returns to the squad eight months after the pre-tournament gathering.
