That fish with a bitter taste, April first

1 Mins read

In a world daily crossed by false news, the ancient tradition of April Fools’ fish endures, despite everything.

Italy – Waking up at dawn to the news of the Italy’s qualification for the World Cup, certainly doesn’t put you in a good mood. First, because you immediately think of a fake news, then your thought is confirmed by the calendar: April Fool’s Day.

And you wonder: does a day dedicated to jokes still hold up in this world of fakes? As if there weren’t much heavier ones, on a daily basis?

The Origins

The tradition of pranks and the so-called “April Fool’s” has existed for many centuries; in fact, there seems to be evidence of it even in Genesis. Certainly, the tradition was already popular during the Roman Empire. The origins are unclear, but today the custom is very popular throughout the Western world and also in countries from other regions.

In the last 100 years, the mass fishing on April Fool’s Day has been favored by the press. The most authoritative media outlets have had a lot of fun teasing their audience. Today, the scepter has passed into the hands, pardon, the keyboards of social media. https://ilnuovoterraglio.it/falso-allarme-bomba-trovati-gli-autori/

The doubt remains as to why it is called “April Fools’ Day.” Perhaps because the act of falling for the trick, the joke, is shared with the poor fish, which nonetheless remains far more tragically caught on the hook.

In my days….

Even April Fool’s Day makes you reflect on many decades ago, when you were a child and all it took was a paper fish cleverly stuck on the back of a classmate to make the whole class laugh.

Or when you managed to convince a parent of something incredible, and you only told them the truth many years later, enjoying that bold prank for a long time, in solitude, to avoid punishment.

Now there is no social platform worthy of this category that does not propose one for the fateful day. The prank is planned in advance but unfortunately the result leaves a bitter taste.
