The new ItalBasket head coach Luca Banchi calls up 15 players for a mini training camp in Rome from October 20 to 22
ROME – A new ItalBasket team is beginning to take shape. The new head coach of the National Team, Luca Banchi, has called up 15 players for a mini training camp to be held in Rome from October 20 to 22. This is an opportunity to evaluate new talents, many coming from the victorious Under-20 National Team at the last European Championship, led by MVP Francesco Ferrari.
It is also a chance to clarify ideas without all the top players involved in league and cup competitions, finishing with a scrimmage against Rsr Sebastiani Rieti, a Serie A2 team. All this in preparation for the official debut in the 2027 World Cup qualifiers scheduled for November 27 in Tortona against Iceland.
The training camp will take place behind closed doors at the Palazzetto dello Sport on Viale Tiziano, with the final event on October 22 at 12:30 PM open to the public.

“The call-ups for this first mini camp were made following certain principles. The basis, as specified by the coach, is the desire to involve as many nationally relevant players as possible while always respecting the commitments of their respective clubs. No more than one player per team was called, and players whose clubs have league and European Cup matches scheduled close to this period were not included. The process is just beginning, and in the coming months, we will have the chance to involve other players.”
