Inaugurated Yesterday: the “Bissuola Immersive Lab” – A New Space Dedicated to Immersive Reality at the Carpenedo Bissuola Library-Parco Albanese
MESTRE. The new lab offers young people and teenagers access to a selection of over 52 XR (Extended Reality) works, immersive videos, and virtual worlds from the Venice Immersive section of the Venice International Film Festival. It will be open from Tuesday to Sunday, from 3 PM to 7 PM, with free admission upon on-site registration.
Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro stated:
“The Bissuola Immersive Lab represents a new chapter in the important collaboration between La Biennale and the City of Venice, using mainland spaces made available by the Administration. Its main goal is to introduce young people and adolescents to the expressive and artistic potential of immersive media, while also providing them with an educational experience. This collaboration has, in recent years, led to positive and significant social outcomes.”
Brugnaro also recalled the activities of CIMM (Center for Computer Music and Multimedia) at Parco Albanese, performances in Dance, Music, and Theatre, Educational programs for schools, families, and the general public, concerts and workshops for the Children’s Carnival, and installations at Forte Marghera.

“We are particularly pleased to make available to a predominantly young audience a selection of projects presented in recent years at Venice Immersive. The Venice Film Festival was the first to believe in the expressive potential of a new language supported by unprecedented technology, establishing the first competition dedicated to virtual reality in 2017. Now, new audiences beyond the Festival will be able to experience the artistic and spectacular potential of this new medium.”
The “Bissuola Immersive Lab” serves as a dynamic archive of XR content, immersive videos, and virtual worlds, offering young people the opportunity to explore and experiment with immersive realities through works that tackle socially relevant themes, playful and adventurous experiences, and the discovery of space and fantastical worlds.
All works are in their original language with English subtitles, and their duration ranges from 7 to 60 minutes. Viewing is recommended for ages 13 and up.
The Venice International Film Festival was among the first film festivals to focus on Virtual Reality, launching the first VR competition in 2017. In 2022, the section was renamed Venice Immersive, establishing itself as a unique and leading global event dedicated to immersive arts and media.
