The historic train will cross Italy
On February 10th, all over Italy, “The Day of Remembrance” is celebrated, the commemoration established by the law of March 30, 2004, no. 92, which aims to “preserve and renew the memory of the tragedy of the Italians and all the victims of the foibe, of the exodus from their lands of Istrian, Rijeka and Dalmatian populations after the Second World War, and of the more complex issue of the Eastern border.”
Why February 10th?
On February 10, 1947, the Peace Treaty of Paris was signed, confirming the annexation of almost all of Venezia Giulia and Zara to Yugoslavia, which were already militarily occupied. This Treaty established the Free Territory of Trieste under the control of the United Nations.
“The Train of Remembrance”
This year, the “Il Treno del Ricordo” initiative will also be commemorated as part of the planned commemorations by the Coordinating Committee for the celebrations of the “Giorno del Ricordo”, established at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, which last year welcomed around 20,000 visitors.
A historic train will host on board a multimedia exhibition characterized by particular evocative setups, and will ideally retrace the journey of the exiles from Istria, Fiume, and Dalmatia, starting from Trieste and also stopping in Padua.
The exhibition will be open for free on the 12th and 13th of February 2025, from 9:00 to 18:00 at Padua station, platform 10, and at other locations in Italy.
“The Train of Memory” will depart from Trieste and will stop, in addition to Padua, in 5 other cities according to the following schedule:
February 10 and 11, 2025, Trieste Centrale, platform 1;
February 12 and 13, 2025, Padua, platform 10;
February 14 and 15, 2025, Bologna Centrale, platform 6 west;
February 16 and 17, 2025, Rome Ostiense, platform 1;
February 18 and 19, 2025, Naples Centrale, platform 14;
February 20 and 21, 2025, Lecce, platform 1;
February 24 and 25, 2025, Sassari, platform 2.
