From June 20 to September 28, 2025, a lyrical and abstract journey into the inner Venice of the Roman artist
VENICE – An imaginary archipelago, made of light, glass, and memory, is revealed in the Dom Pérignon rooms of Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art. It is “The gold of the lagoon,” the new solo exhibition by Antonello Viola, curated by Elisabetta Barisoni, open to visitors from June 20 to September 28, 2025.
The exhibition project, specifically designed for the second floor of the Venetian museum, gathers a selection of works on glass and Japanese paper created in the last four years. An unpublished corpus that reflects the fluid and changing dimension of Venice, between lyrical abstraction, spiritual tension, and refined pictorial investigation.
The works on glass, arranged on multiple levels and painted on both sides, evoke the movements of the tides, the layering of time, the fragility of the city suspended over the water. On the other hand, the Japanese papers depict inner landscapes where the material becomes a vehicle of light and silence, evoking submerged foundations, embodied pigments, and a profound sense of transcendence.
Along the way, Viola dialogues ideally with the symbolism of Giulio Aristide Sartorio, in a subtle comparison between eras and languages that reaffirms art as a contemplative experience.
“The gold of the lagoon” is more than an exhibition: it is a sensitive tribute to the city, to its liquid body and its ever-changing soul, capable of retaining and reflecting time.
