Greta Scarano directs, with Matilda De Angelis and Yuri Turci as leading actors, questions us about a family, a condition, and the way to manage daily life while facing a disability, unseating taboos
A true story, steeped in suffering, sweetness, and refined provocations, with two brothers who reunite and in a certain way face a condition that will lead them far, with the rediscovered closeness. Iene and Omar who strengthen the blood bond through Omar’s “disability,” the latter engulfed by a family mode that involves managing the condition, without any ambition for change or listening to the son’s messages, who turns the noise into a mantra, but they appear unheard, invisible.
Then Irene’s return, the sister who ran away prematurely due to the passing of their parents because of some medical tests, will disrupt the whole chessboard, raising the banner of happiness.
And this is precisely the feeling that drives the story and the interpretative synopsis of the film, initially aimed at containing Omar’s state, which pleasantly affects everyone in his condition, and then directing the path towards his favorite shore, to live normally. As is his right, without hidden prejudices.
And the habit in this case is given by participation in a talent show, a girlfriend, and future children, but this will be revealed, as the message of the film turns straight towards the incapacity of a family to face diversity due to cultural and atavistic issues, almost wanting to hold the solution, which is to want to keep everything intact, even if shattered over the years by diversity. A defensive move in good faith, yielding and lonely. But always struggling.
Even though around the corner will come the excitement, the change, and the happiness.
