The National Coordination of Human Rights Teachers invites schools to translate into concrete actions the message of dialogue and fraternity expressed at the 2025 Rimini Meeting, in order to form critical and supportive citizens
The National Coordination of Teachers of the discipline of Human Rights has welcomed with great attention the message of Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi at the 2025 Rimini Meeting. His words, focused on dialogue, reconciliation, and the commitment of the international community to peace, represent a strong and timely warning for all civil society.
For us educators, the Cardinal’s participation is not just a symbolic reminder: it signals a concrete responsibility for Italian schools. Zuppi’s words – “in deserted places we will build with new bricks” – find an immediate and urgent meaning within the school. Education is the place where the bricks of civil coexistence, solidarity, and global citizenship are built. Here, every teacher becomes a weaver of bridges, capable of promoting respect for rights, inclusion, and attention to others, even in contexts marked by conflict or marginalization.
Cardinal Zuppi’s message holds extraordinary educational value for students: it calls for reflection on the consequences of divisions and discrimination, fosters awareness of human rights, and promotes a sense of active responsibility toward the community. It encourages young people to become critical, empathetic citizens ready to build a fairer society.

Italian schools have the task of putting the Cardinal’s message into practice: developing in the new generations a critical conscience, intercultural sensitivity, and the ability to engage in dialogue. Only in this way will peace not remain an abstract ideal, but become a daily experience—in relationships among students, within school communities, and with the surrounding territory.
The National Coordination of Teachers of the discipline of Human Rights therefore invites all schools to embrace the educational legacy of Cardinal Zuppi, translating the call to fraternity, hospitality, and bridge-building into concrete actions. Italian schools can and must be a laboratory of peace, where the “new bricks” do not remain mere words but become concrete tools for forming responsible citizens, aware of their rights and duties.
