The new Bob and Skeleton track in Cortina will host the first stage of the Specialty World Cup
CORTINA D’AMPEZZO – It had been 15 years since the Bob and Skeleton World Cup was last held in Italy, since February 2011 in Cesana Pariol. What better occasion to inaugurate the new and controversial track specifically created for the upcoming Milan Cortina 2026 Olympics.
After the first successful tests on ice by some bobsleigh and luge teams carried out in recent weeks, the new track in Cortina d’Ampezzo has been chosen to host the first event of the 2025/26 World Cup season. This is also a way to fulfill the obligation of rotating all the nations that usually attend the circuit.
The official tests will take place in the week from November 7 to 16, while the official stage will be held from the following day until November 22. The World Cup of specialties will then continue in Igls, while in December there will be the double date of Lillehammer from 8 to 14 and from 15 to 21. After the Christmas break, the competitions will resume from Winterberg (December 29 to January 4), St. Moritz (where the continental titles are also awarded) from January 5 to 11 and Altenberg from January 12 to 18.
At that point, the competition will have a long break for the Olympic Games from February 6 to 22. The closing of the Cup will instead be entrusted to Koenigssee from March 2 to 8.
