The United States and Iran have reached an agreement for a temporary ceasefire lasting two weeks, aimed at creating conditions for the start of broader negotiations. The deal, announced by President Donald Trump, includes the suspension of U.S. military operations and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic hub for international energy traffic.
WASHINGTON / TEHRAN. The agreement was facilitated by a diplomatic intervention led by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who promoted a pause in hostilities to allow for continued dialogue between the parties.
The ceasefire is conditional and is based on several key points, including the “immediate and safe” reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has confirmed, through Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, its willingness to ensure the transit of ships for the agreed period.
