Venice is getting ready for a Carnival 2025 focused on sustainability and safety. Mayor Luigi Brugnaro has signed two ordinances aimed at ensuring the responsible and safe conduct of the celebrations.

The mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, has issued an ordinance banning the use of plastic confetti and similar products (plastic streamers, plastic confetti cannons) throughout the municipal territory during Carnival. This measure is part of the “Venice plastic free” project and aims to reduce the environmental impact of the festivities.
The ordinance encourages citizens to make informed choices even in their private lives, by carefully reading product labels to check their composition and disposal methods. The Environment Councillor, Massimiliano De Martin, emphasized the importance of adopting responsible behaviors even in small daily choices to contribute to a more beautiful and environmentally protected city.
In addition to the ban on plastic confetti, Mayor Brugnaro has issued a second ordinance to ensure safety during the “Aquatic Carnival Parade” scheduled for Sunday, February 16. From 9 am to 3 pm, in the areas affected by the event, in escape routes, and in neighboring areas, the transport of beverages in glass containers, closed cans, or capped plastic bottles will be prohibited unless there is a justified reason.
The ordinance also prohibits the serving of food and drinks, including outdoor seating areas, for commercial activities in the Aquatic Carnival Parade area. It is also forbidden to use, transport, or possess pepper spray or similar substances. Failure to comply with these measures will result in an administrative fine ranging from 25 to 500 euros.
The two ordinances issued by Mayor Brugnaro demonstrate the commitment of the municipal administration to promote a Venice Carnival 2025 focused on environmental sustainability and public safety.
