The Venetian Circle Association donates to the Municipality of Venice the work that won the second prize of the 2024 Mestre Painting Prize
MESTRE (VE). The artist Ilir Avrami is the winner of the second prize of the 2024 Mestre Painting Prize with the artwork “Venice by night” (2024, tempera on canvas, 50 x 40). Avrami is able to express with depth of soul a form of painting resulting from a research that “presents spaces that do not exist, that come from elsewhere, an abstract vision,” as explained by the organizers of the Mestre Painting Prize.
An acknowledgment that comes moreover after the artist’s degree obtained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. So a double event for Avrami. “I thank the Mestre Prize, all the organizers, Mayor Luigi Brugnaro who was present today,” said the artist on the sidelines of the event during the interview given to Il Nuovo Terraglio. “I am happy,” he added. “You made me fall in love with Mestre because before I used to go up and down Venice. But now I feel it’s mine, there is a piece of my soul.” What does his painting represent? “So, it represents a Venice that is seen from the inside and outside.”
From “inside a dark house, at night, those windows you see outside, the fog, the silence it conveys, letting you understand the whole day, that there’s noise, the life that was there. It was a beautiful image that remained there.” And from here came “the pretext to paint, to bring out a contemporary painting, the way that image is painted helped me create that composition. It came like that, they come from nothing, in short,” explained the artist. Images of places, spaces, experiences, sensations that apparently remain still in memory and then transform into works of art.
Ilir Avrami was born in Albania in Tepelene in 1968, he is now an Italian citizen and lives in Padua. He has participated in several group exhibitions including in Padua at the “Palazzo di Granguardia” and at the “Art night Venice”. In 2024 he exhibited his works, at the invitation of the organization of the Mestre Painting Prize, at the group exhibition “100 Artists in Villa” in Piazzola sul Brenta.
