The Place of Wonders opens the 2026 calls to protect the arts of the lagoon: Murano glass beads and Burano lace
VENICE – The Foundation The Place of Wonders, promoted by the Londra Palace Venezia, announces the opening of the 2026 calls dedicated to the training of future artisans of the lagoon. The focus is on two globally recognized excellences: the Venetian glass beads, a symbol of the Murano tradition, and the Burano lace, famous for its fineness and complexity.
Active since 2022, the Foundation – part of the hotel collection The Hospitality Experience – is dedicated to the protection and transmission of Italian craftsmanship, creating growth opportunities for young talents. In three years, it has already awarded 30 training scholarships across Venice, Florence, and Umbria, supporting the continuity of excellence in trades.
The new scholarships, which will fully cover the participation fee, represent a concrete opportunity to enter the world of artisan work. At the end of the program, the winners will present a final project that will be highlighted by the Foundation in its cultural activities.
To apply, it is necessary to send an email to fondazione@theplaceofwonders.org by December 31, 2025 with an ID card, resume, cover letter, and optionally, a portfolio. The outcome will be communicated by January 23, 2026.
The calls in detail
- “Creation and Use of Venetian Glass Beads 2026” 4 scholarships – 239-hour course. Organized by master artisans Alessia Fuga and Marisa Convento, the program includes practical activities in the workshop, theoretical lessons, and visits to the symbolic places of the glass tradition. Start: February 2026.
- “Advanced Training in the Art of Burano Lace 2026” 2 scholarships – 150-hour course + internship. In collaboration with Atelier Martina Vidal Venice, the program offers advanced training in needle lace, independent practice, and an internship with public demonstrations. Start: February 16, 2026, end: May 12, 2026.
