The Navy’s training ship will be in Venice from March 27th to 31st, the Municipality is organizing a water parade to celebrate the event
Venice. The legendary training ship of the Italian Navy, Amerigo Vespucci, will be moored at Riva San Biasio in Castello from March 27th to 31st. To celebrate the event, the Municipality of Venice is organizing a grand water salute.
Mayor Luigi Brugnaro and the councilor in charge of Traditions, Giovanni Giusto, have invited rowers, rowing enthusiasts, sports groups, sailing associations, yacht clubs, docks, and all sea lovers to participate in the initiative.
The program includes the gathering of all boats at 10:15 am at Punta della Dogana, with the water parade set to depart between 10:30-10:45 am. The parade, led by the Serenissima, will arrive at Riva San Biasio in Castello at 11 am to pay homage to the Vespucci.
“The motto of the ship is ‘Not the one who begins but the one who perseveres’ and it expresses the vocation for the training and education of future officers of the Navy – explains Mayor Brugnaro – and it recalls the history of Venice, which is a continuous perseverance of the work and ingenuity of man in a unique ecosystem.”

The arrival of the Amerigo Vespucci represents a unique opportunity to celebrate the Italian maritime tradition and to admire up close one of the most beautiful ships in the world. The Municipality of Venice invites citizens and tourists to participate in large numbers in the water parade, to pay homage to the Vespucci and its crew.
