The History of the Villa
The Villa was built in the seventeenth century by Almorò Tiepolo, procurator of San Marco and senator of the Republic of Venice, as a countryside residence and center for managing the agricultural activities of the area. Over the centuries, the Villa passed to other illustrious Venetian families, such as the Valier and the Passi de Preposulo, who are still the owners and open it to the public for guided tours, stays, and events.
The Architecture of the Villa
The Villa features a façade in the Venetian Baroque style, characterized by a central triple lancet window with a balcony and a pediment with an arch on the roof. Inside, you can admire the Sansovino-style ceilings, the keystone heads, the 18th-century stuccoes, and the 17th-century frescoes, the work of the perspective artist Pietro Antonio Cerva, known as the Bolognese. The ballroom on the noble floor is decorated with fake architectures and mythological allegories, creating an effect of optical illusion and spatial depth.
The Italian garden
The garden of Villa Tiepolo Passi is divided into three parts: the Italian garden, with geometrically shaped boxwood hedges, a stone fountain, and a fishpond; the romantic English park, with over 40 species of centuries-old plants; and the noble chapel, rebuilt in 1774 after a fire, with two entrances, one for the public and the other for the family.
