August Fog

This morning much of Veneto woke up shrouded in fog. Fortunately, no disruptions in traffic were reported

Veneto – Fog in August in the Po Valley is a meteorological phenomenon that is quite rare but not exceptional, as the President of the Regional Council Luca Zaia confirmed in a post: “Veneto has given us an unusual image: fog in August.

It’s not an exceptional phenomenon; it has happened in the past as well. In August 2015, for example, a thick blanket had covered the plain, from Venice to Bassano del Grappa and Montebelluna. But this time there is a striking fact: 25-26 degrees already at dawn, with very high humidity. A decidedly unique postcard from our Veneto, which always manages to surprise us even in the height of summer.”

The causes of the phenomenon

Summer fog is caused by warm, humid air passing over a cooler surface, whether it’s marine or terrestrial, or due to the lifting of morning humidity. In fact, the temperature drop from last night was very high: it went from 38 – 35 degrees during the day to 22 at night. Additionally, the humidity level was around 80%.

All of this has favored the phenomenon of fog, which fortunately has not caused any problems for traffic. Air traffic is also regular.
