In the Chorzow leg of the Diamond League, Nadia Battocletti achieves her first success in the world circuit in the 1500. Fabbri also wins in the shot put, with Fantini in third place.
CHORZOW (POLAND) – It’s more and more StraordiNadia! After the European double in Birmingham in the 5000 and 10000 meters, Nadia Battocletti triumphs for the first time in her career also in the Wanda Diamond League. The athlete from Trentino finishes with a sprint in 14:54.09 and wins the Chorzow stage.
Another success for the other blue European champion Leonardo Fabbri. The Tuscan throws 22.08 and marks the tenth competition of the year over 22 meters.
Third place instead for the European silver Sara Fantini in the hammer with 71.95 from the first throw and fifth for the Birmingham champion Dariya Derkach in the triple jump.

She is used to winning, or at least to stepping on the podium, but there was one thing missing. A victory in the World circuit. And here the two-time European champion (with two consecutive doubles) this time succeeds in the feat of conquering the 5000 at the stage of Chorzow, in Poland, of the Wanda Diamond League.
An incredible 14:54.09 achieved in a sprint, leaving behind the Ethiopian Freweyni Hailu, who has to settle for second place in 14:54.62. Nadia Battocletti delivers a perfect race. The pace is slower than expected, and the group stays tight until the last kilometer.
Then the queen of the middle distance rises to get behind the Ethiopian Marta Alemayo (fourth at the finish in 14:55.46). The Italian in the last curve attacks and takes the victory with the Australian Rose Davies third (14:55.39) who precedes five other Ethiopians including the ranking leader Likina Amebaw, eighth in 14:56.42.
At the end of the race, the multiple champion commented:
“I thought the race would be faster but I don’t mind that it wasn’t… I had some doubts returning from Birmingham, whether to run or not after the Europeans. There was a chance to do it here and so I told myself to give it a try. I don’t really know how I managed to get back after winning the two golds. I stayed home for only four days, it wasn’t easy but it was worth it”,

One week after the success at the European Championships, here comes Leo Fabbri again. For the tenth time this season, the world bronze medalist throws over 22 meters, reaching 22.08. The Italian, the seasonal world leader (22.74 in Eugene), beats the Americans Jordan Geist (21.96) and Joe Kovacs (21.86).
A record figure, as the Tuscan athlete thus becomes the second weightlifter in history with at least ten competitions over 22 meters in two seasons: in 2024 he did it as many as 15 times. Before him, the only one to achieve this was World Champion Ryan Crouser, with the feat accomplished for six consecutive seasons, from 2019 to 2024.
At the end of the race, Fabbri commented: “Really happy because I didn’t expect to throw over 22 meters. After the Europeans, my condition dropped a bit, so I did a longer warm-up. I hope to improve at the Zurich meeting and dream of winning the diamond in Brussels.”
