On May 21, 2026, the conference on “Community and Urban Fabric” was held at the Novotel in Mestre. The speaker was architect and urban planner Andrea Rossetto, along with Alberto Laggia, journalist and director of “L’amico del Popolo,” the newspaper of the Belluno Dolomites and weekly of the Diocese of Belluno-Feltre, as well as a member of the Regional Council of the Order of Journalists, who were introduced by Mattia Esposito, coordinator of the training school. Greetings were also given by Christiano Costantini, President of the Il Circolo Veneto Association, and Michele Furlan, President of the CGIA Association of Mestre.
A perfect opportunity for reflection inspired by a dialogue revolving around the perspectives of urban development, where “land and spaces” reveal themselves as interlocutors leading to the awareness of recognizing the values already present, drawing from the ongoing cultural process. Between Skyline and Waterfront, with attention inevitably shifting to new buildings, towers that rise and inevitably visually influence the surrounding landscape, a horizon that changes, in a journey through time that goes from the bell towers of Venice to Marghera, with its cumbersome industrial archaeology, up to the towers of Jesolo, the latter in evident visual “contradiction” with the landscape sketch of Cavallino, subtle and discreet. And then a very interesting note on the dichotomy between physical and virtual spaces, with the former, practiced for millennia, offering known advantages and disadvantages, and the latter at an objective risk of addiction and overload of unknowns. Attention also shifts to the attitude of architecture, which can significantly influence a work, between perspectives and visuals. And the difficulty of architecture itself to be contemporary, with the need to leave new marks, while at the same time managing to combine utility and aesthetics. With the narrative that, in order to be changed, as architect Andrea Rossetto states in the interview given to us at the end of the conference, requires a change in the cultural assumptions that lie upstream, which are more difficult to change. And the cultural value becomes fundamental because things exist when they are told.
