The Circle aims to be a free and open space where, together with fellow travelers sharing the same intent, we can explore the unique world of autobiography: a place -both concrete and metaphorical- delicate, where we can bring forth memories, recollections, experiences, our life in short, which through writing can be relived, reworked, understood.
Battistella brings her experience as an author to this proposal: she has several poetry collections, a narrative collection, and a professional autobiography to her credit. “For me too, Anghiari was the lightning encounter,” she recounts. “It was the summer of 2011; from there, a more systematic writing activity began, oriented towards personal research and which only incidentally materialized in various publications.”
To give the opportunity to those who were unable to participate over the past months, the Bookstore is offering a conversation meeting on July 16 at 6 PM, co-hosted with some of the participants from the Circle. A great chance to enter this world through the words of those who have experienced it firsthand.

Meeting with Autobiographical Writing
It seemed like a bit of a crazy idea, but it turned out to be a winning bet: the Essential Little Diary, Autobiographical Writing Circle, has become a permanent reality. After an initial phase open to the curious, starting in January the group has stabilized, meeting regularly every two weeks in the cozy premises of the San Leonardo University Bookstore in Treviso.
The initiative was conceived and conducted by Silvia Battistella, who has just concluded a forty-year teaching career intertwined with various experiences: a master’s in systemic counseling, educational supervision, and over ten years as a teacher at Il Portolano, a writing school – where she designed and managed multiple workshops and preparatory courses such as Ego_grafie, immersive sessions in autobiographical writing.
“It is a historic moment in which I feel a strong urgency from people to find a context where they can meet themselves and others, in a disposition of listening, care, and real sharing. For this reason, I thought of a free and open Circle, where I can offer my skills to provide a protected yet stimulating space,” says Battistella.
The experience differs from other more structured proposals aimed at the packaging of a product or the in-depth exploration of specific tools and techniques; autobiographical writing is practiced here according to the model of its first creator, Duccio Demetrio, who in 2011 founded, together with journalist Saverio Tutino, the Free University of Autobiography in Anghiari, in the province of Arezzo, a cult place that has since become a destination for thousands of people.
