OTTAWA (CANADA) – An unfortunate but hopeful debut for a young team lacking stars. The men’s national volleyball team begins its journey in the Volleyball Nations League with a loss after a very close match that ended only in the tie break.

At The Arena at TD Place in Ottawa, France wins 3-2 (25-19, 27-29, 25-23, 23-25, 14-16) with many regrets from the blues. Absolute debut for Pardo Mati starting with Paolo Porro as setter, Kamil Rychlicki as opposite, Mattia Bottolo and Luca Porro as outside hitters, Giovanni Sanguinetti in the middle, and Gabriele Laurenzano as libero.

This evening at 10 PM Italian time, the team of De Giorgi will face Germany. Live on DAZN and streaming on VBTV.

Statements

These are the words of debutant Pardo Mati: “I think we didn’t start badly in this VNL with the match against France. The sets were hard-fought, but in the last two, we lacked a bit of precision, and that affected the result. In the future, we need to try to be less rushed, even by extending the play. They were good: they served strong and blocked well. Overall, it was a good match. I had a lot of fun today. The coach asked us to be relaxed, and I think I played a good game. However, I want to think about the group, my teammates, and all the staff. It was a fun match to play because it was very competitive; too bad about the final result. We are a young group and still have room for improvement.”

Kamil Rychlicki: “I think today was a very balanced match, with both teams giving their all and not holding back. Today we made a couple of too many mistakes. We need to learn from these situations and defeats as well. I hope that, in light of this match, we will do better in the important challenges ahead of us. We take home additional experience: we have a young team that played five sets all very close, point by point. We have little time to rest, tomorrow we will be back on the court against Germany. So now let’s put this match behind us and think immediately about the next one. The VNL imposes very high rhythms but we are prepared.”
