The European Archery Championships conclude with Mauro Nespoli’s silver in the men’s individual event and the bronze in the women’s team event
ANTALYA (TURKEY) – Italy concludes the European Championships in Antalya (Turkey) with three medals in archery. On Saturday, silver was won in the women’s compound, a division that will become Olympic in Los Angeles 2028 with the mixed team, thanks to Giulia Di Nardo, Andrea Nicole Moccia, and Elisa Roner.
The closing ceremony was instead dedicated to the recurve, a discipline that gave us two more medals. The individual men’s medal was won by Mauro Nespoli and the women’s team medal was won by Tatiana Andreoli, Roberta Di Francesco, and Chiara Rebagliati.
The Olympic champion from Pavia started with four consecutive victories, then losing the final to the Dutchman Willem Bakker, who prevailed 6-2 at the end of a match that was competitive from the first set. For the thirty-eight-year-old Italian, this is his first individual medal in his career at the continental level after the eight he secured in past editions between team events and mixed teams. Bronze for the home favorite Mete Gazoz, who defeated the nineteen-year-old Frenchman Baptiste Addis 6-2.
Glory also for the women’s team, third in the preliminary phase with 1963 points. The Azzurre defeated Azerbaijan in the round of 16 by 5-1 and then in the quarter-finals Ukraine 6-0. In the semi-finals, Italy was defeated by Germany 6-2 and then went on to play for the bronze against the home team, Turkey, winning it 6-2.
The European champion is indeed Germany, which wins the gold medal match against Belarus with the same score.
